Aligner view system
Weatherproof cameras are mounted on the posts of the automatic starting system next to the gates, one per gate, and their live streams are shown together on a computer in the control tower. Because the gates are transparent, the aligner judge sees the position of each boat against the start line without leaving the tower.
In rowing the system is used twice: before the gates are raised, to confirm that the area above them is clear and to correct a crew that is out of position, and after they are raised, to check the bows entering the gates and instruct crews to move into position. In canoe-kayak racing only the second stage applies. The system is certified by FISA and ICF.
