IAAF aluminium hammer cage with ground sleeves
The hammer cage is the safety structure around the throwing circle: it holds a hammer that leaves the circle on a wrong line and keeps it inside the sector. The poles are anodised aluminium in an oval extruded high-resistance alloy, each reinforced by an interior collar casing up to 2.40 m so that there is no break point at the height where an impact is likely.
The nets are rot-proof braided polypropylene of 5 mm diameter with a 40 x 40 mm mesh, black, certified to EN 1263-1 and delivered with a test mesh. They are hung floating, as the rules require, so that a hammer striking the net is not thrown back towards the athlete or over the cage, and nylon rollers let the crew raise and lower them. The cage is supplied with sleeves and nets and carries IAAF certificate no. E-99-0090.
