Skate profiling machine SSM PROFIL

SSM PROFIL shapes the profile of the blade rather than sharpening its edges: the length of blade that touches the ice is reset to the shape a player asks for. The grinding wheel stands vertically, which is what lets the machine contour a blade quickly and hold the shape accurately along its whole length. Shapes are cut against contour templates, and four templates are supplied with the machine.

Profiling is the first operation, not the last — after contouring, the blade goes to an SSM-2 or an SSM TT-3 for the finishing pass, flat or hollow. The pair of machines is the normal fit-out of a hockey club sharpening room, where the profile is set per player and renewed as the blade wears down.
